Getting Around: Renting a 4x4 vehicle is the best way to see Oman. It gives you the freedom to drive up the smooth, paved roads into the high cool mountains where normal cars cannot go.
Best Time to Visit: The most beautiful weather is from October to March when the days are sunny and warm (around 25°C). If you visit in the summer, head south to Salalah to see the amazing monsoon season turn the desert completely green!

When you travel with a rental car, NEVER travel in the desert alone.
Looking for toilet: every mosque has toilets for men and women. there are many mosques. They mostly close at 8 - 9 pm, open 5 - 6 am.
Roads are good all around the country. At some area’s 4×4 is recommended or even obligatory. When you go into the mountains, you need 4 ×4 as well as the desert.
Many petrol stations all around the country, but never wait for the last moment. Sometimes you might require more petrol.
Ladies: cover head with a scarf when entering mosques, arms and legs covered.
Men: to enter mosques, arms and legs covered.
Driving in the cities
Omani are not used to using signals that much, they have their own way of seeing what the other is doing.
On round-abouts keep in the lane you choose, and go with the flow.
Driving on the highways
On the highways do not speed too much, especially in remote areas. Camels may cross the road sometimes.
Driving in the mountains
When you go down, do not use the brakes to much, go slowly and make use of the motor. Do not overheat your car.
