The Netherlands in Oman
Leading the Green Revolution
Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands
The Netherlands and Oman share a centuries-old maritime history that has evolved into a strategic partnership for the 2050 Net-Zero era. This bond is anchored by the SOHAR Port and Freezone, a premier 50:50 joint venture with the Port of Rotterdam that serves as a global hub for logistics and heavy industry. Complementing this is the world’s first Green Hydrogen Corridor, a groundbreaking initiative linking the Port of Duqm with the Port of Amsterdam. From the relocation of high-tech industrial assets to pioneering renewable fuel supply chains, the Netherlands remains Oman’s primary partner in building a sustainable bridge between the Arabian and North Seas.
🏗️ THE ECONOMIC BRIDGE: 2026 STRATEGIC INTELLIGENCE
1. The Green Hydrogen Corridor (Amsterdam–Duqm)
As of Q2 2026, the world’s first liquid hydrogen commercial corridor is fully operational. This bridge allows Omani-produced green ammonia to be received and processed at the Port of Amsterdam, powering industrial clusters in the Ruhr Valley.
Key Insight: This corridor reduces logistics costs for Omani exporters by 12% compared to traditional shipping routes.
2. Water-Tech & Agri-Innovation
Dutch expertise in "Saline Agriculture" is currently being deployed in Al Batinah. Through the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), B2B partnerships are focusing on desalination technology that uses 30% less energy than 2024 standards.
Investment Opportunity: High-tech greenhouse clusters are seeking Omani JV partners for food security projects.
3. Maritime Logistics & SOHAR Port
The 50:50 joint venture between the Port of Rotterdam and the Sultanate remains the gold standard for regional logistics. In 2026, the focus has shifted to "Autonomous Port Operations," integrating AI-driven cargo handling to increase throughput by 20%.
