France / Ukraine - Skies of Solidarity
How France’s 14 Juillet Celebration Honors Ukraine
THE STRATEGIC DIPLOMACY: THE VOLUNTEERS' COALITION, MIXED MIRAGE CREWS, AND THE KYIV-PARIS-MUSCAT AXIS
As Paris prepares for its historic 14 Juillet (National Day) celebrations on July 14, 2026, the traditional display of military pageantry and civic pride is taking on a profound international significance. Under the direction of President Emmanuel Macron, France has placed this year’s celebrations under the theme of Ukraine and the "strategic awakening of Europe" (le réveil stratégique de l'Europe).
Previous “14 Juillet” celebration on the Champs Elysées in Paris. This year, 2026 the fly over will include Ukrainian colors.
Far from a localized national holiday, the 2026 Bastille Day parade serves as a global stage for solidarity, bringing the ongoing defense of Ukrainian sovereignty to the forefront of European security and diplomatic dialogue.
From high-altitude symbolic flyovers to high-level summits at the Élysée Palace, the sky over the Champs-Élysées is set to become a canvas for unity, echoing deep partnerships that stretch all the way to the Arabian Peninsula.
The Coalition of Volunteers: A Multinational Shield
A cornerstone of the 14 Juillet events is the diplomatic and military prominence of the Coalition of Volunteers (Coalition des volontaires).
Co-founded on February 17, 2025, by France and the United Kingdom, this strategic alliance was created to guarantee robust, long-term security commitments for Ukraine, establishing frameworks to regenerate its defense capabilities and secure a durable post-conflict peace.
For the 2026 celebrations, France has invited representatives and military delegations from the 35 to 37 member countries of the coalition—including European allies, Canada, and Turkey—to participate in the festivities in Paris on July 13 and 14.
This historic gathering includes:
A Diplomatic Summit at the Élysée: President Macron will host coalition leaders to coordinate military financing, defense acquisitions, and joint training pipelines.
A March of Shared Security: Military delegations from member states will march alongside French forces, demonstrating an integrated, agile, and collective commitment to European stability that bypasses standard bureaucratic delays.

Wings of Unity: The Mirage 2000-5F Flyover
The most visually striking moment of the national parade will take place in the skies. Flying in close formation directly behind the famous Patrouille de France aerobatic team, two Mirage 2000-5F fighter jets will soar over the capital.
What makes this flyover historic is the human and symbolic partnership behind it:
Mixed Franco-Ukrainian Crews: The jets are piloted by joint crews of French and Ukrainian aviators, demonstrating the success of France's intensive fighter pilot training programs for the Ukrainian Air Force.
Colors of Sovereignty: One of the Mirage 2000-5F jets has been custom-painted in the vibrant yellow and blue of the Ukrainian national flag, serving as a powerful visual testament to France’s commitment to securing Ukrainian airspace.
This aerial display honors the courage of Ukrainian defenders while showcasing the operational integration of Western aerospace technology with Ukrainian tactical experience.
The Muscat Connection: The Kyiv-Paris-Muscat Axis
These grand gestures in Paris find a distinct and resonant echo in the Sultanate of Oman, where cultural and diplomatic solidarity has built a unique bridge between Eastern Europe, Western Europe, and the Middle East. Under the active leadership of H.E. Olga Selykh, Ambassador of Ukraine to Oman, and H.E. Nabil Hajlaoui, Ambassador of France to Oman, Muscat has hosted major bilateral cultural programs that emphasize creative resilience.
A prime example is the landmark "France-Ukraine Night" hosted at the Centre Franco-Omanais (CFO) in Muscat earlier this year. The event brought together members of the local diplomatic corps, Omani cultural figures, and the European diaspora to witness contemporary cinema and documentary photography.
The evening highlighted:
"La Vie Malgré Tout" (Life Despite Everything): A deeply moving exhibition by photographer Maya Stephany, documenting the endurance of daily life and creative expression in Ukraine.
A Shared Platform for Open Dialogue: Leveraging Oman’s historical position as a peaceful crossroads for international diplomacy, the CFO event demonstrated how the universal languages of art and film can build unbreakable bonds of human solidarity.

When French and Ukrainian pilots fly over Paris this July 14, they represent the same spirit of resilience and cooperation that was celebrated under the Royal patronage of the Omani cultural establishment in Muscat.
A Horizon of Integration
The timing of the 14 Juillet celebrations aligns with another major milestone on Ukraine's path toward European integration. European diplomatic sources indicate that the European Union is preparing to open the next major "cluster" of accession negotiations for Ukraine and Moldova around mid-July 2026.
By intertwining the celebration of French liberty with the defense of Ukrainian sovereignty, France’s National Day highlights a clear message: the future of European peace, democratic resilience, and strategic security is an shared journey. From the airbases of France to the diplomatic halls of Muscat, the skies of solidarity remain open, resolute, and undivided.
