Tunisia - Oman
Cultural Excellence, Tech-Transfer, and the Mediterranean Gateway
Sfax Tunisia
Embassy of the Republic of Tunisia in Muscat
Introduction: In 2026, the Omani-Tunisian relationship has reached a historic zenith, defined by the recognition of the Sultanate as a global beacon of culture and knowledge. Following the presentation of the Arab Cultural Excellence Medal to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik in May 2026, the partnership has solidified around a shared "Authenticity and Modernity" model. Strategically positioned as Oman’s bridge to the Mediterranean and North African markets, Tunisia serves as a vital partner in Vision 2040, particularly in food security (agri-tech), renewable energy, and pharmaceutical manufacturing. Under the active leadership of H.E. Dr. Hilal Abdullah Al Sanani (Omani Ambassador to Tunisia) and the Tunisian mission in Muscat, the two nations are translating decades of fraternal ties into high-yield industrial synergies.

🏗️ THE ECONOMIC BRIDGE: 2026 STRATEGIC INTELLIGENCE
I. The 2026 Cultural Benchmark: ALECSO Medal
On May 12, 2026, in a ceremony at the ALECSO headquarters in Tunis, His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik was awarded the Arab Cultural Excellence Medal (Supreme Class).
Significance: This is the first time the medal has been awarded since the organization's founding in 1970.
Sovereign Impact: It validates Oman’s model of using culture as a national development project, further strengthening the intellectual and scientific exchange between Tunis and Muscat.
II. Agri-Tech & Renewable Energy Synergies
The Omani-Tunisian Economic Forum and recent MoUs signed in late 2025/early 2026 have activated specific industrial corridors:
The Olive Oil Axis: Tunisian firms like SOFACO and Domaine Beldi are collaborating with Omani investors to establish high-standard bottling and distribution hubs in the Sultanate, securing the supply chain for Gulf markets.
Energy Intelligence: A landmark partnership between ONEIC (Oman) and the Tunisian Electricity and Gas International Services Company is driving tech-transfer in smart-grid management and solar equipment manufacturing.
III. Strategic Mobility: Direct Muscat–Tunis Connectivity
Following the Air Services Agreement signed in late 2024, 2026 marks the operationalization of direct flight corridors. This connectivity is the "Physical Bridge" allowing for increased B2B missions, student exchanges in higher education, and the rapid deployment of Tunisian medical and technical expertise to Omani industrial zones.
IV. Medical & Pharmaceutical Collaboration
With Tunisia’s world-class reputation in pharmaceuticals, the 2026 technical agenda focuses on Bio-Medical Equipment and joint ventures in medicine manufacturing. Recent meetings between the Omani mission and Tunisian firms like Pharma Clean are paving the way for specialized production lines in Muscat.
