SULTANATE OF OMAN

Oman Vision 2040

The national roadmap for economic, social, and institutional transformation.

About Oman's Future

Oman Vision 2040 serves as the Sultanate's definitive roadmap for economic and social transformation. It guides the nation's transition from a hydrocarbon-reliant state to a diversified, innovation-led economy.

Championed by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, this strategic blueprint prioritizes the development of a competitive private sector, sustainable environmental practices, and advanced digital governance, all while positioning Oman as a key player in global logistics and renewable energy markets.

It is the unifying mandate behind every major national initiative, signaling to the world that Oman is open for business, future-focused, and committed to sustainable growth.

Historical Foundation

Oman's history spans over 100,000 years, marked by trade in copper and frankincense, with ancient civilizations like the Umm An Nar culture developing around 2000 BC.

It became the oldest independent state in the Arab world after adopting Islam in the 7th century, repelling foreign powers, and establishing a maritime empire that extended to East Africa. Under the Al Bu Said dynasty, ruling since 1744, Oman entered its modern era of development in 1970 under Sultan Qaboos bin Said.

"Oman’s rich history is anchored in its people. Today, that strength serves as a blueprint for our shared future."
