World Bank Group (WBG)

The World Bank Group (WBG) operates in Oman as a strategic partner focused on technical cooperation and private sector development. Since Oman’s graduation from traditional lending, the partnership has evolved into a Reimbursable Advisory Services (RAS) model, where the Bank provides world-class expertise to the Omani government. In 2025, the WBG strengthened this bond by establishing a permanent Country Office in Muscat to coordinate efforts across its three main arms: the IBRD, the IFC, and MIGA.

Key 2026 Functions:

  • IFC (International Finance Corporation): Acts as the private sector engine. In April 2025, the IFC signed landmark agreements with Future Fund Oman to co-invest in green manufacturing, clean energy, and healthcare.

  • MIGA (Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency): Provides political risk insurance. MIGA has issued over $1.7 billion in guarantees to support the development of critical infrastructure in the Duqm Special Economic Zone.

  • Strategic Advisory: Works directly with MoCIIP and the Ministry of Finance to streamline the investment climate and align Omani labor markets with international private sector needs.
