10th Italian Design Day in Muscat: RE-DESIGNING the Urban Future

Introduction:

From February 2 to 4, 2026, the Italian Embassy in Muscat, in collaboration with the Italian Trade Agency (ITA), launched the 10th edition of the Italian Design Day (IDD). This year's theme, "RE-DESIGN: Regenerating spaces, objects, ideas, relationships," serves as a vital pillar for the Oman-Italy 2026–2030 Action Plan. It moves beyond aesthetics to address the functional regeneration of cities and the integration of high-end Italian craftsmanship into Omani industrial infrastructure.

The Ambassador of Design:

The 2026 delegation was led by Architect Andrea Boschetti, founder of Metrogramma Studio, who served as the official "Ambassador of Design" to Oman. Alongside Architect Arianna Piva, Boschetti engaged with Omani urban planners and developers to discuss how Italian architectural philosophies can solve modern challenges in sustainability and social cohesion.

Key Panel Insights (OCEC & IDF 2026):

During the panel discussion at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC), titled "The Architect's Craft: (RE)-Designing Cities," industry leaders highlighted the shift toward "Branded Real Estate" and luxury lifestyle integration:

  • Michele Galli (CEO, The One Atelier): Outlined the future of luxury living spaces in Muscat.

  • Fabrizio Cardinali (CEO, ETRO): Discussed the synergy between high-fashion identity and interior architectural design.

The Ambassador’s Vision:

"The Italian Design Day represents a powerful platform for dialogue between Italy and Oman. Through the theme of regeneration, we aim to share Italy's expertise in design and architecture as tools for sustainable development, cultural exchange, and the improvement of quality of life for future generations." > —

H.E. Pierluigi D'Elia, Italian Ambassador to Oman.
